Our boys cross country team won the State Championship at the Illinois Lutheran Sports Association state meet this past weekend! Nineteen boys teams and fifteen girls teams from all over the state competed. It was announced at the event that 392 runners were registered to run – a record number. The 2020 State Meet was canceled due to COVID-19, making this year’s state meet even more meaningful for all involved.

Trinity’s boys team looked strong throughout their 2021 season, with first place finishes in all but one meet. They competed against local middle schools including Jefferson, Franklin, Washington, Lincoln Magnet, Pleasant Plains, Auburn, PORTA, North Mac, Our Savior’s, and St. Agnes. The team placed 3rd at the Pleasant Plains Invite, behind Auburn and PORTA, missing 2nd place by 2 points.

The team will travel to Mequon, Wisconsin this weekend to compete in the National Lutheran Cross Country Championships on the campus of Concordia University Wisconsin. The boys presented their state championship banner and trophy to their school during a chapel service held on Monday, Oct. 18. Later this week, there will be a “send off” parade at the school, giving all Trinity Lutheran School students (early childhood through 8th grade) an opportunity to wish the team well as they depart for nationals.
